In life:
\nI’m off for the holiday season. The dishwasher failed a couple months back. It took a while to set aside some funds. I just got a brand-new spanky one. Keeping on top of bigger ticket house maintenance is rated high on my difficult-to-make-myself-do top ten. So go me! I applied for and got a city grant to get the arborist to do maintenance trim on the massive black walnut in the back yard of the Manor. One less vacation-time adulting task.<\/p>\n
Weather has been shite. Lots of lake effect snow. I do my best not to complain. Otherwise, I’d be doing nothing but. London, Ont. rides the SW Ontario snow line. It’s wavy and usually we fall below it. This year we’re not. Brutally cold too early in the year. There have been four massive squall events of more than 24 cm\/9.4 inches since mid-November.<\/p>\n
It makes life inconvenient. I don’t mind shoveling but I shouldn’t be doing it. My sweetie saves my osteoporotic back. He loves me this I know. Imagine having to slate 30-45 minutes of extra morning time to dig yourself out of the driveway. My habit of leaving for the gym before work? Finding it impossible. Getting in some weekend attendance and figuring out what gym schedule I can manage Monday-Friday. I have let go of my business web sites. My notions of running my coaching business as a side hustle are over optimistic at this time. It’s there for me whenever I want to return.<\/p>\n
Spent my work hours in November writing an article proposal, which got accepted. Dammit now I have to write it. Still working on cataloging infrastructure for the nation with a grass roots task force. Starting work on the next research project. Planning for the next big metadata\/collections project. Still loving my job.<\/p>\n
In politics:
\nThe big big news is that the federal Liberals gained two MPs who crossed the floor from the Conservative party. Pierre Pollievre is losing supporters before his leadership review.<\/p>\n
The big news is the feds recognizing that national preparedness requires a civil defence plan. We’re going the route of the Scandinavians and gearing up for the obvious threats to Canada. About time.<\/p>\n
The smdh news is Carney is colluding with Smith on pipeline through B.C. Not impressed. I doubt it can get rammed through. We’ll see. Indigenous Nations were not consulted. Those nations are fighting it and rightly so. It’s arrogant AF to disregard the legally mandatory obligation to ask before you build on sovereign jurisdictions. Post decision consulting a good step but still. It was goddamn rude to omit them.<\/p>\n
We approved school lunches across the board. We’re finally going to be making it easier for doctors to come practice here. Other shit is shitty in politics. The province continues its power grab of municipal jurisdictions. The premier is a grifter. Education is fucked. Healthcare is slowing improving mess.<\/p>\n
In sum, the usual state of affairs.<\/p>\n
