It’s windchill -30C. It’s January. It’s normal. It’s still fucking cold.<\/p>\n

We have an ironic shortage of road salt. In the middle of a brutal winter. Ontario has the world’s largest underground salt mine in Goderich, roughly 90 mins away. Not enough mined last year, they’d limited production during Covid. And way way more snow than anticipated. Hence shortage.<\/p>\n

We’re Canadian, we can cope. Sort of. Enter increased use of sand and a re-prioritizing which streets get full plow+salt or low plow+sand. The impact depends upon one’s snow driving skills and choice of tires. Winter tires are better in sand. Some folks go with all-weather tires, skipping the semi-annual pain in the ass of rotating between winter and regular tires. Most of the time all-weathers are good enough if you drive in regularly plowed and salted areas.<\/p>\n

I see a lot of fishtailing at the four-way stops where folks don’t know not to gun the gas. This is why I got driver’s ed in February. I’m fine.<\/p>\n

In politics:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Our troubles continue brewing in Alberta. A small faction of ultra-extremist separatists continues to visit with government agencies outside of Canada. British Columbia Premier David Eby has called these individuals “traitors.”<\/a><\/p>\n

I have to bone up on my Canadian law to confirm that they meet an actionable definition. Colloquially the term is appropriate. Eby is saying the quiet part out loud.<\/p>\n

I believe Albertans can vote on leaving all they like as long as election is fair. And not funded by states that are actively threating the national interest. Dis\/mis info abounds.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, how about that Carney speech eh?<\/p>\n
