Staycation week adulting. Tonal implications of “when it makes sense.”

In life: had use-it-or-lose-it vacation days to use. This week’s staycation is for a much-needed catch up on adulting plus some funning-in-place time. Have I?

I’d say so. Had my handyperson over to consult on a couple of little things with my fence and my floorboards. Century homes creak and squeak but there comes a time when things need nailing down. One adulting.

Two adulting. Errands. Doctor’s appointment. Canadian Tire for gardening and hobby supplies. Shoe store to replace my broken down sandals.

Three adulting. Progress sheet mulching my front flowerbeds now that the porch skirt is up. Also progress with re-edging them.

That’s sufficient adulting for my inherited guilt about productivity.

Bonus adulting. Did hard things like following up with the friends that I promised follow-up about socializing.  Overcame phone-shyness to call an arborist for the Manor’s various arboring needs. Twice. Left a message both times, week in-between. Time to move on to the next arborist on my recommended list.

Funning was had with Rib Fest, porch sitting, gardening time, audio-books, seeing friends, long walks, and writing this letter to you.

In politics: I gleefully laughed listening to CTV news network reporter on Carney’s response to meeting with the U.S. usurper after the bullshit August 1 deadline in the tariff talks. Reporter said Carney wouldn’t meet with the l’il Dictator until “when it makes sense.”  It was the way she said it that had me howling. Her tone implied the vicious Canadian politeness of Carney. He is fucking trolling. Subtext indicated by tone? Reporter thinks Carney thinks it does NOT make sense to waste his time with this turd. A burn.

I wanted to see if Carney’s tone matched how the reporter quoted his words. I watched the video from another reporter and witnessed Carney’s tone and body language saying a shoulder shrugging meh. With an “oh-well” cautiously friendly smile. A burn covered up with diplomatic shrugs is funny too in its subtlety. Carney’s got this. Viciously polite still holds. More politely.

The piece is worth a view as Carney explains the trade talk strategy for steel and lumber. It illustrates how the percent GDP investment in the military can include this type of economic re-arranging in its calculation for NATO purposes. Let’s also take this as an example of  bias showing itself in the tone a reporter uses while speaking. Impartiality in the media? A myth dear ones.

Love and courage my friends!
